Members of the At Large Forum,
At this point in time, it is my considered view that ICANN , after the
promises made by its interim Board at its first meetings in Singapore and
Berlin that by the year 2000 it would have a democratically elected Board
of Directors, elected by At Large Members, would do severe harm to itself
and its future role in Internet Governance if it now reneged on these
promises.
On the other hand, if ICANN embraced the democracy concept with
enthousiasm, it would provide itself with the solid base that it would need
to withstand rival bids for the Governance role.
