Asking questions?
As I observe the work of this committee I notice a distinct, and
troubling, similarity to ICANN processes gone by.
In particular, I note that the dialog is not a di-alogue at al. Instead
is is a monologe. Various people speak; the committee is silent.
Is the committee listening? Is it understanding? How do we know?
One would expect in matters of this complexity that subtle nuances would
not always be well conveyed and that the committee would, at a minimum,
have questions on matters that need to be clarified.
In a matter as important as the At-Large, which to my mind is the only
element of ICANN that can convey a degree of legitimacy to the
organization, a full two-way, interactive discussion is required.
This should not yet another of those ICANN process in which those who wish
to speak are reduced to the role of supplicants who are forced to throw
their petitions over an wall to an unknown and silent fate.
