Why? This is exactly the root of democracy. And in current democracies, too
many steps are needed to get to the place where global issues are actually
treated. All this indirectness was introduced because of practical problem
in dealing with a mass direct participation to the decision-making process.
On the other hand, in this case we have a technology that makes it easy for
everyone involved to participate, and that allows to build low cost ways to
dramatically reduce the gap between the top and the bottom. Why wouldn't you
want to use it?

But then, why don't we simply try to design a practically feasible way to do
it, rather than questioning the concept in itself? I don't mind if it will
be hard or it will take some more time and effort now, as we have to build a
system that should last for decades. It is an effort worth making.
