Leah and all stakeholders or interested parties,
I agree that this is a better approach than what this Committee
has come up with. However it is not a NEW idea. It has been
offered before. None the less, it is superior.
The problem our members have, as we have discussed this idea
amongst ourselves on a number of occasions, is that no matter
how many "Regions" you have, there will still be large groups
in some countries that will be to one degree or another, disenfranchised.
We don't believe this is necessary. Rather we would prefer to see
that each country that has and interest and is willing to participate
actively, put up their own candidate. If that candidate can indeed
engender enough interest for their constituents amongst others
in other countries to be elected, then they should occupy a BoD
seat. This however does not mean that any of the "9" seats, not
"6" as the ALSC Final Report Draft would intend. In other words
all seats should be open to any candidate that is self declared.
We view that no matter where a BoD member come from or
is domiciled, that they are to represent the whole of the At-Large
members, not just a subset of them form a particular region or
country. After all we are all stakeholders....
