I agree completely, but it's a good place to guage user perception on
these issues. Since Slashdot caters to article commentary and already
has a huge user base, it would be a better place to reach users than
press releases to non-interactive content sites or ones that just do a
poor job with commentary. Furthermore, you don't have the barrier to
entry to, say, get on the atlarge mailing list to post your opinions or
send out your carefully crafted commentary on the draft to some email
addresses that could potentially be a black hole. At least *someone*
will read your commentary, even if it's not one of the unelected gods on
Olympus.

Trolls, flamers, idiots, etc. also provide a nice balance in the reality
checkbook in case you get too high in the clouds with rustic images of
farmers emailing people from their wireless connected notebook in the
middle of Africa.
