AS long as we are on the outside screaming at the doors, we have no chance
to change this. Change will only come from within. To be effective, we have
to get the At Large working as a part of ICANN.

That was my point: Scepticism on both sides are expected, but now that
everyone seems to be moving from the edges to work together in the center,
let's change our old ways of mutual antagonism and confrontation, and try to
trust each other. Let's let everyone's actions determine theitr true
selves.

Stuart is doing his best to keep the "good ol' boy network" alive. And what
we are building threatens that network. His answer is to engineer us out of
the picture. We as a body need to state clearly and succintly:
- The At Large is self-organizing, with or without the blessing of the
ICANN BoD. We'd prefer and it be the former, but will not be deterred by
the latter!
- Our greatest desire is to work within the framework of the MoU in
partnership with the SOs and the ICANN BoD for the betterment of ICANN, but,
- We will not hesitate to strenuously, openly, and very publically work
against ICANN to further the rights of INternet users if we are shut out!

Agreed. Technology follows its own rules. Like those who continued to
demand the earth was flat long after it was proved otherwise, ICANN's
leadership needs to understand that it is the nature of the Internet to
proliferate and evolve. Instead of working to curb alternative roots,
rootless networks, peer-to-peer, etc. they should be recognizing their
existance as fact, including them into their conversation, and figuring out
how to get them all talking to each other! If that's a complicated scary
idea, tough! That's the job you signed on for!
If you want to ride the tiger, you have to hang on tight when he leaps!
Tying him down may make your ride easier in the short term, but only serves
to piss him off in the long term!
