If there were any merits to be found in Joanna's point of view, she would 
doubtless be able to defend her position and argue against the vailidity of 
the "message" that has been put forth.  Instead, she chooses to attack the 
"messenger", usually the last recourse for those who can't otherwise justify 
their views.

When it gets to the point that participants in a debate become labeled as 
pariahs and paid saboteurs by their adversaries, then an honest exchange of 
views no longer has any merit -- you cannot hold discussions with those that 
are not prepared to be rational.
