Hello Eric:

There was a very unfortunate incident here in the United States that may show a parallel to ICANN habits. Enron was one of the most powerful energy companies ever. It dabbled in wholesale electrical distribution, natural gas transmission lines, weather based derivatives, coal, wood pulp, plastics, and, best of all, creative bookkeeping. It had the eyeballs of Washington and Wall Street and the monies of Midas to propel them long into the future. Unfortunately, their idea of the future was always only just a few days ahead. They focused on short term revenue and paid no attention to the cumulative effects of their lack of vision and common sense. And scruples.

I am afraid that ICANN is following that same path as Enron. They will refute any hint of problems, followed with boisterous proclamations of continued success (at the same time scrambling behind the scenes to cajole the market-makers to boost their good will) and eventually implode, deny knowledge of anything bad that happened (even though they were in total control of the company), and flee to other high paying jobs (or, if we are lucky, just retire).

There may be a difference in this case, however. I fear that ICANN has already shredded the evidence.

These guys are formidable. They are smart, they seem to coordinate their efforts, and they all have no common sense nor morals. It can be a very dangerous combination in the wrong hands. And it has been in their hands for many years.

Regards,

Micheal Sherrill

S---,

Do you see any way out for this gross assimilation of a business?
